Fo awhile now I've been wanting to freshen things up here on the blog. Not in a scrap-everything-I've-done-and-completely-rebrand kind of way…. (because that messes with your Pinterest traffic- big time!) but more of a let's declutter-and-organize-the-site-so readers-can-find-my-good-stuff makeover. But before I got down to business on the cleaning up and organizing of my posts, I spent some time thinking about “what is the purpose of this site?” and “Why am I spending so much time working on it?” Because at this point…. we are waaayyyy past the hobby stage.
So here's what it really comes down to me for me…
I am passionate about being prepared.
When people ask me what I write about, I usually tell them that I teach readers how to become more organized. But when you picture “being organized” in your mind…. I think most people imagine neat shelves where everything is stored in pretty matchy-matchy boxes. And while that's certainly a part of “being organized”, I think that for women running busy lives… it's more than just decluttering and putting things into pretty containers. It's about having a game plan for the day, for the week, for the next hour. It's about being prepared.
Being prepared means having a good calendar system so that when you need to make a doctor's appointment you can schedule it properly so it doesn't overlap another child's activity, and you don't miss the appointment because you forgot that you had one scheduled.
Being prepared means knowing what you are going to make for dinner tonight, so that you remember to take the meat out of the freezer in the morning and buy all of the ingredients for the meal during your weekly trip to the grocery store.
Being prepared means making the most of family time, taking great vacations together, and throwing awesome birthday parties for your kids because you took the time to plan ahead and thought about how you wanted to make these times feel special.
Being prepared means you can curl up with a good book after dinner because you aren't in a panic trying to get things ready for the next day. You've already got it covered because you have a plan.
Being prepared isn't a hard thing to do…. it just takes time and commitment to do it.
And I want to show you how to be prepared too!
So Momof6 is really about teaching others how to be prepared for their own busy lives. And with that in mind….. that's how I plan to re-shape the site. Today I am rolling out my newly-designed blog header and About Me page. I changed the tagline of Momof6 to “sharing clever ways to be prepared” which I feel sums it all up. And over the next several weeks I plan to continue to tweak, declutter, and reorganize sections of the site so that Momof6 can really be a great resource for women who are looking for inspiration and tips that they can use to feel more prepared!
I would love to get some feedback today and as we go along- so please leave me a comment and tell me what you think, and what you wish you could find here! I promise to get working on it!
