I am “one of those people”… the kind of person who loves to cook (when I have the time and energy of course!), so preparing our family's Thanksgiving dinner is something that I truly love to do. And now that I have my son's successful tonsil and adenoid removal surgery behind us (it took place yesterday and went very well)…. I can now turn my attention towards our holiday celebration! So I thought I would share with you my plan for our Thanksgiving feast, along with links to my recipes and preparation tips! I hope that it puts you into that “Thanksgiving mood”!
The “Main Event”
Of course the showpiece to the entire Thanksgiving meal is the turkey… so I purchased a 24-pounder this week, which means that we will be enjoying plenty of leftovers! If you are looking for some tips on how to prepare your holiday bird, I wrote an article on that very topic this past week over at the Parenting Squad titled ” Turkey Roasting 101!”
I have some side dishes that have become absolutely hard-core favorites in our house, and at this point my kids would never allow me to make a change! These include: sausage, apricot and dried cherry stuffing, mashed potatoes (using a potato ricer), weathervane inn gravy, and cranberry-raspberry sauce. I plan to try a new recipe for sweet potato souffle, and of course our meal wouldn't be complete without Gramma's homemade cinnamon rolls!
Other Family Favorites
My kids love this recipe for “party punch” and request it for all of their birthday parties as well as family holidays!
The Thanksgiving Table
And just in case you missed it, I filmed an iVoices piece on my plan for setting our festive Thanksgiving table! And I am going to to add in these adorable Oreo turkeys at each place setting as well. Who could resist?
I would LOVE to hear about your Thanksgiving meal plans… are you cooking, and if so- what are your holiday favorites? And if someone else is doing the cooking, what are you looking forward to the most?
