Pink Ombre Swirl Cookies

I've made pinwheel cookies before, but this time I thought it would be fun to try a swirl cookie with three shades of pink! So the kids and I created these sweet pink ombre swirl cookies!
Ingredients
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • red gel food coloring
  • powdered sugar (to prevent the dough from sticking)
  • sprinkles
Instructions
  1. In a medium-sized bowl, sift together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs, vanilla, and milk and mix. Add in the flour mixture in batches, beating until just combined.
  3. Divide the dough into 3 equal-sized balls, and tint each with the gel food coloring- creating three different variations on pink- from light to dark. Shape each ball into a rectangle and chill for 30 minutes.
  4. Roll each color into a long rectangle of similar size- about ¼" thick. Layer the three colors of dough from dark to light, and then roll the top layer to flatten the layered dough and spread the colors to the edges.
  5. Begin with one long side and gently roll up the dough to create a log. Roll the log in sprinkles to cover. Chill each log 35-40 minutes before slicing in ¾" thick slices.
  6. Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven for 15-20 minutes until set.
