I am sure your kids, like mine, have seen the commercials for the line of Cool Brands products…. Cool Baker™, Knit's Cool™, Sew Cool™, and Text Cool™. In fact, they've made it onto a few Christmas wish lists in my house- so when I was offered the opportunity to try them out- I knew my kids would be thrilled!
First up? Creating a knit scarf using the Knit's Cool™ Knitting Studio!
Putting together the “knitting studio” was easy, and Lili and I jumped right into following the simple instructions to “cast on” our first 6 stitches and start knitting our first row. But somehow our results didn't look at all like the picture in the instruction booklet. So we undid everything and started over….. 4 more times! We just could not get it to look right! Stumped- we called in for back up- and had Daddy read the instructions and offer his opinion as to how we should cast on and knit. But alas- his creation looked as awful as ours.
So finally- we did what we should have done from the beginning- and looked at their website for an instruction video! We found this awesome Knit's Cool™ infinity scarf video and before long, we were well on our way to creating our first scarf!
Lili even used the video to learn how to cast off and finish the scarf on her own- no parent involvement requested! And I think it turned out beautifully! What I love about the knitting studio is that you can create the projects over and over using your own yarn- so the kit really has “staying power”. And the fact that you are teaching kids how to knit without using knitting needles makes it so much easier! At this point, Lili is already on her 2nd scarf and Charlotte has picked out her yarn to make a headband and cell phone pouch! This really is a fun craft kit for kids!
Next up was trying out the Text Cool™ Studio. Now anyone who grew up in the olden days before P-touches were invented (like me) will remember the old mechanical label makers… and the Text Cool™ Studio is a retro throw-back to the old school ways of creating labels! Kids insert the bracelet “media” into the machine and press the button to advance the bracelet. Then they turn the dial on the embossing wheel to spell out whatever text message they would like to emboss on their bracelet, such as “Girls Rock”, “I love horses” or “I am awesome!”.
They can switch out embossing wheels to choose emojis to go along with their text declarations. The kit comes with 35 bracelets and clasps so there were plenty of bracelets to go around even in my large household! This would be a fun activity for kids to do at a sleepover party!
So if your kids have been asking for Cool Brands kits for the holidays- I can honestly say that we have tried two of them and enjoyed them very much!
