You've got kids? You've got a spouse? You've got clutter. It's just a fact of life. The more bodies living in your home, the more clutter you have. Because every single person (including you!) buys, collects, receives as a gift, and brings home from school/work- lots and lots of stuff. Stuff that we need, stuff that we use, stuff that makes us happy, and stuff that we think we need to keep around. And what doesn't happen so often? The sorting out of all of the stuff- to determine what we are still needing, still using, and still loving, and get rid of what we aren't. So it's time for a busy Moms call to action- a decluttering challenge to help us all slim down those overstuffed closets, drawers, and shelves and help us all to get organized!
A Guidebook for Our Decluttering Challenge
A blogger I really admire, Ruth Soukup wrote a book “31 Days to a Clutter Free Life” that I thought would be perfect to use as a guidebook for our challenge. What I love about it- is this book isn't just about the physical clutter in your home- the paper stacks on the kitchen counters, the over-stuffed drawers that won't close and the closets that are so packed that you can't shift the hangers from side to side to get out what you need! This is a challenge which helps you declutter your busy mind, your schedule- really all areas of your life!
Let's Tackle Just One Decluttering Challenge Per Week
The only problem? I personally don't have time to focus on decluttering every day for 31 days. With 6 busy kids, another work from home career, and you know.. LIFE…. I just know that I am not going to get this done in one month by working on it every single day. Therefore I was thinking that we would take just one task from the book each week and focus on that.
So if you have time to tackle this week's challenge during the week when the kids are in school- awesome! Doing it over the course of a weekend works better for you? Perfect! Got a vacation or a busy week planned? No problem- you should easily be able to catch up by doing two challenges in one week- remember- this book was written with the idea that you could take on one challenge each day! We can all do this together and inspire one another!
Join the Decluttering Challenge Facebook Group!
I would love to tackle this together as a group challenge! If you too would like to do this together and support one another in The Busy Moms Decluttering Challenge Facebook Group as we work through the book and tackle each week's assignment. This will be the place where we can share before and after photos of the week's challenge, as well as share tips, frustrations, and celebrate each other's success! Click on over and join us!
Let's Get Started!
Each week I will share posts here on the blog as well as in the Facebook Group with the week's assignment. I'll show you my own “before” photos, recap some of what we learn in each chapter of the book, and even inspire you with some ways to organize the space once it is decluttered. So grab the book and let's get to work!
On Monday I'll be covering the first week's assignment which is to read “Day 1” (which establishes the “Clutter-Free Ground Rules”) and tackle our first challenge in “Day 2”- the Entryway!
