Are you looking for a fun game to play together as a family? These free printable Christmas Mad Libs are sure to be a hit at your house! Mad libs are some of our favorite party games for kids!
Ever wonder where they came up with the name “Mad Libs?” Well- I did… so I looked it up! According to Wikipedia:
Mad Libs was invented in 1953 by Leonard Stern and Roger Price. Stern and Price co-created the game, but could not agree on a name for their invention. No name was chosen until five years later when Stern and Price were at a restaurant and while eating, the two overheard an argument at a neighboring table between a talent agent and an actor. During the overheard argument, the actor said that he wanted to “ad-lib” an upcoming interview. The agent, who clearly disagreed with the actor's suggestion, retorted that ad-libbing an interview would be “mad”. Stern and Price used that eavesdropped conversation to finally create the name “Mad Libs”!
I love that story! And the fact that Mad Libs have been around for 60+ years!
How to Play Christmas Mad Libs
For each of the printable Christmas Mad Libs games- you'll get a page that lists the word prompts for the story or Christmas song. One person can read the prompts out loud to the group and write down the responses (and be sure to do this without peeking at the Christmas letter or song!). The sillier the response, the better!
Then you can read the Dear Santa letter or sing the Christmas carols to the group- inserting the responses as you go along (feel free to write them in the allotted spaces within the letter or songs to make things easier!).
